Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Noida International Airport at Jewar, Uttar Pradesh today.
As the much-anticipated Noida International Airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, prepares for its commercial launch in April 2026, it promises a significant leap forward in air travel efficiency. This state-of-the-art facility is engineered to tackle two persistent challenges in Indian aviation: severe weather disruptions and lengthy passenger processing times. With its advanced fog-ready technology and an innovative system for a 10-minute check-in, the airport aims to virtually eliminate flight delays and set new benchmarks for operational reliability and passenger convenience in the bustling Delhi-NCR region.
The airport’s ability to operate in challenging conditions is anchored by its sophisticated airside infrastructure. The primary runway, designated 10/28 and stretching 3,900 metres, is a cornerstone of this resilience. Crucially, it is equipped with a dual-end Instrument Landing System (ILS). This technology provides precise lateral and vertical guidance to aircraft during approach, enabling pilots to rely on cockpit instruments rather than external visual cues, which is indispensable during periods of dense fog or haze. The ILS, along with complementary navigation aids and an advanced aeronautical ground lighting system, has undergone rigorous calibration and validation checks, leading to its certification by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) for "all-weather operations" in March 2026. This certification underscores the airport's preparedness to handle flight movements even in reduced visibility conditions, a common occurrence in the Delhi-NCR area during winter months.
Beyond its airside capabilities, Noida International Airport is set to redefine the passenger experience within the terminal. A core objective is to drastically reduce the time passengers spend on pre-flight formalities. The facility is designed to achieve a rapid 10-minute check-in and baggage-drop process. This ambitious target is made possible through a strategic integration of self-service kiosks, streamlined digital processing, and a thoughtfully designed terminal layout engineered to minimize congestion and optimize passenger flow. By leveraging technology to automate traditionally time-consuming steps, the airport aims to offer a smooth, efficient, and stress-free journey from arrival at the terminal to boarding.
The launch of Noida International Airport carries immense significance for the aviation sector and regional development. As a second major airport for the Delhi-NCR region, it will alleviate pressure on existing infrastructure, enhancing overall air traffic capacity and connectivity. Its commitment to virtually eliminate fog-related delays and provide rapid passenger processing will not only improve traveler experience but also bolster economic activity, tourism, and logistics in Uttar Pradesh and beyond. This development positions the region as a hub for advanced aviation infrastructure, attracting further investment and demonstrating a forward-looking approach to national development challenges.
