The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially announced that the much-anticipated results for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) December 2025 session will be declared on February 17, 2026. This crucial update brings an end to the anxious wait for thousands of aspiring medical professionals who appeared for the rigorous screening test.
Candidates who undertook the examination, conducted on January 17, 2026, will be able to access their scores and qualification status through the official NBEMS website. A secure login using their unique credentials will be required to view the results, ensuring privacy and accuracy for each examinee.
The FMGE stands as a pivotal hurdle for Indian citizens and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders who have completed their primary medical qualifications from institutions outside India. Successfully clearing this examination is a mandatory prerequisite for these graduates to register with either the National Medical Commission (NMC) or any State Medical Council (SMC), thereby granting them the eligibility to practice medicine within India.
Historically, the FMGE has garnered a reputation for its challenging nature, reflected in its consistently low pass percentages. While a pass rate typically oscillates between 10 to 25 percent, past records highlight both the demanding benchmark and occasional shifts. For instance, the December 2022 examination saw a relatively higher qualification rate of 39 percent, offering a glimmer of hope. In stark contrast, the pass percentage plunged to a mere 4.93 percent in 2014, underscoring the exam's inherent difficulty and the intense competition faced by candidates.
To qualify for the FMGE, candidates are required to secure a minimum of 150 marks out of a total of 300. The examination itself is structured to comprehensively assess a candidate’s medical knowledge, comprising a single paper with 300 multiple-choice questions (MCQs). These questions are meticulously designed to cover a broad spectrum of medical subjects.
The computer-based test (CBT) is administered in two distinct parts on the same day, each comprising 150 questions. Candidates are allotted 150 minutes to attempt each section, with a scheduled break provided in between. This format allows for a thorough evaluation across various medical disciplines. Furthermore, within each session, the exam may feature multiple timed sections. For example, a session could be divided into three sections (A, B, and C), with each section containing 50 questions and a strict time limit of 50 minutes allocated per section, demanding efficient time management and profound understanding from the examinees.
As the declaration date approaches, candidates are advised to keep their login credentials ready and regularly check the official NBEMS portal for the latest updates. The FMGE result is not just a score; it's a gateway to realizing their aspirations of contributing to India’s healthcare landscape.
